Master Builders recently conducted an extensive survey of Queensland based builders, including Dixon Homes based in Brisbane but building nationally. The survey focused on the things that were most important to the buyers who were looking at building a new home in 2014. The responses highlighted growing trends when it came to house designs and what Australians want from their new home builder.
It is insights from our customers like these, and the conversations we have with our clients every day that allows our building team to construct the kind of homes that people dream about and that they will fall in love with. We share the biggest wants and must haves for those surveyed in this post.
1. Quality and Value for Money
Aussies are increasingly choosing builders who can offer both quality and value for money. The survey found that buyers were looking for competitive pricing when it came to choosing a builder, but were not willing to save on costs with cheaper building materials
This puts large scale builders like Dixon Homes at an advantage due to their significant buying power with building materials and other construction costs which can be managed.
2. Quality Fixtures and Fittings
Second to the quality and value of the build were the features that were included throughout the home. Customers prefer quality European stainless steel appliances and high quality kitchens and bathrooms with clean, attractive and neutral décor.
3. Liveability in Design
Understandably a good home design was also rated as extremely important to customers. Open plan spaces that can be used in a number of ways and for different purposes contribute to a design with good liveability. A floor plan which flows well and includes opening to outdoor entertaining options was essential to Australians building their own home.
4. Swimming Pools
Perhaps surprisingly, swimming pools were highly sought after among buyers. Many customers building their own home indicated they also saw the opportunity to build as the perfect chance to include that in ground pool area that they always wanted. It could also be partly due to the hot climate of the Sunshine State, where swimming pools were considered less of a luxury and more of a necessity than in other locations.
Big homes with plenty of space continue to be desired, but in contrast from other years environmental performance of the home and the size of the garden were less important.
These results were compiled from Queensland Master Builders members in the final quarter of 2013.
